High School of the Dead (?????, Gakuen Mokushiroku?, "Academy Apocalypse") is a manga series written by Daisuke Sato and illustrated by Shouji Sato, published in Fujimi Shobo"s Monthly Dragon Age since September 2006. The manga was on hiatus between the end of 2008 and March 2010,[1] with another short break between May and July 2010. An anime adaptation to the series produced by Madhouse[2] began airing in Japan on July 5, 2010 and is being simulcast in the US.[3]

The series follows a group of Japanese high school students caught in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.

ACT 02: Escape from the Dead
As two other survivors, Saya Takagi and Kohta Hirano, try to avoid the zombies, Rei tries to contact her father, who tells her the city is in panic mode before being cut off. Meanwhile, kendo club president Saeko Busujima saves the school nurse, Suzuka Marikawa, from more zombies. Kohta manages to piece together a nailgun, whilst Takashi and Rei manage to stop the zombies on their end. As Kohta runs out of ammo and Saya starts to buckle under the pressure, the other survivors join them to take out the zombies. As they make plans to journey to Takashi"s house to check on the safety of their families, they learn that the outbreak is worse than they thought.
