The madcap spate of official live Pearl Jam releases in 2000/2001 is certainly one way to beat the bootleggers back, but it still fails to address the pre-2000 concert recording situation, leaving the market wide open for titles such as Live At Checkpoint Charlie, a decent recording of the band's November 3, 1996, gig in Berlin. The performance is excellent, with a set mixing No Code numbers with earlier, harder material. The recording itself is generally quite good, though it seems that while it is indeed a soundboard mix, it's taken from a monitor feed -- Eddie Vedder's vocals are tucked far back in the mix. Completists should certainly acquire this in some form, more casual fans might as well pass over it in favor of a selection of the official live sets, though it should be kept in mind that drummer Jack Irons left the band subsequent to the release of Yield in 1998. ~ Steven McDonald, All Music Guide
