Notes: This was quite a night. We expected a different
kind of show because this particular lineup hadn't played
together before, basically The Flatlanders rhythm section
as Joe Ely Band - with Bobby Keys. Given that, it was a
different vibe than the reunion shows of late with David
Grissom on guitar. (Grissom was unavailable due to the
Storyville shows in Austin that weekend). The setlist had
some surprises - notably the fabulous instrumental outro
of The Rolling Stones' "Can't You Hear Me Knocking?" - 
with Keys (who played on that classic) leading the way.
Another cool moment: Emergency-vehicle sirens blaring
past the venue, appropriately during "The Road Goes On
Forever" ... "Those guys were right on cue," Joe says.
Lastly, the great (and giant) crowd would not let Joe go;
they hooted a solid five minutes to earn the final encore.
As such, there is some scattered chatter throughout the
recording, but it's not a huge deal. Local musician Joe
Pug, who had played earlier, makes a guest appearance
on "White Freightliner Blues." Great to meet fellow taper/uploader bobinchicago, who graciously served as tour guide and wingman for the evening. It was a pleasure. As always,thanks to Joe and all the Ely boys for all the great music and memories over the years. Support 'em any way you can. Continued thanks to The Coin for the surrogate mics.
