Live In Rotterdam 1980 [swingin’ Pig, 1CD]
Live at Ahoy Gebouw, Rotterdam, the Netherlands, June 21, 1980.
Incomplete show.
Very good soundboard.
Including full art work.
“This Swingin’ Pig release documents part of one of their last shows with John Bonham, recorded on tour behind their In Through The Out Door album.” - Philip Cohen
It’s nice to find the group in a friendly mood and to have John Bonham firm and steady behind the skins. In an interview, bassist John Paul Jones recalled of the 1980 tour: “Morale was very high. We were in really good spirits. We were stripped down a lot, musically, and as an act, we remember back to what we were doing. Punk kind of woke us up again. ‘Oh yeah, I remember what we are supposed to be doing here.’ It was about to go for a change of gears and round two… By the time John [bonham] died, we all had sorted it out and were ready to go again. He died in rehearsals for an American tour.”
The Led Zep fan site, argenteumastrum.com, lists this show as: “A truly excellent and fiery show in front of a dull and restrained crowd. The band is really playing well, and even Jimmy is on near top form, playing with guts, cleanly and constructing exciting solos and his usual great guitar playing. Trampled Underfoot is a definite highlight, and the encore of Heartbreaker is blistering.”
Thanks to Phil Cohen for sharing the lossless tracks.
Note: A longtime music fan, Philip Cohen was a contributor to the now-defunct ICE Magazine and compiled the boxsets for The Yardbirds, The Small Faces, Humble Pie and Nice.
