The X-Men have returned to the PlayStation in X-MEN: Mutant Academy. This is a 2D fighting game that provides plenty of gameplay and a huge number of moves. Ten characters are available including Wolverine, Cyclops, Magneto, Toad, Mystique, Phoenix, Gambit, and Storm. Each fighter has special moves that range from simple attacks to huge combos. Players must race to fill up a special combo meter to utilize their strongest attacks, though it will take a lot of effort and patience. A Two-Player mode is included, allowing two people to stage their own epic battles between good and evil. The disc is also full of extras, including video clips and artwork that will motivate players to unlock everything. Upon completing the game with each character, players may watch FMV sequences that help to tell the underlying story. X-MEN: Mutant Academy is a great game for any fan of the comic books, movie, or cartoon as it emulates the qualities that made them great while adding interaction through a great fighting engine.
