Constantinople Records is an upstart record label created by Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins. Little is known about the label and no official website or company exists. The US Patent Office's website listed the label as being trademarked by Corgan. When word of the label was made public, a domain name was registered but no website ever appeared. After one year the URL had expired.

The label was ultimately created to release the album by The Smashing Pumpkins: "Machina II" and the EPs that were associated with it, because Corgan's relationship with Virgin Records had deteriorated. Virgin had refused to release Machina and Machina II as a double album, and when Machina sold poorly, refused entirely to release the sequel. Since the band was breaking up at the time, Corgan decided to release Machina II for free download on the internet. Only twenty-five vinyl copies were pressed, and were shipped via FedEx to several prominent fans in the online community, with instructions to immediately redistribute it on the Internet free of charge.

Billy Corgan, zanger en songwriter van de in 2000 ter ziele gegane The Smashing Pumpkins, wil zijn oude band weer bijeenbrengen. "Ik wil mijn band terug, mijn nummers en mijn dromen", liet Corgan in een paginagrote krantenadvertentie optekenen, op de dag dat zijn eerste soloalbum 'TheFutureEmbrace' werd gelanceerd.

"Jaren heb ik rondgelopen met een geheim, een geheim dat ik bewust niet heb gedeeld. Maar nu wil ik dat jullie een van de eersten zijn die weten dat ik het plan heb The Smashing Pumpkins bij elkaar te brengen", schrijft Corgan. Het is niet bekend of de andere bandleden daar ook oren naar hebben.

The Smashing Pumpkins, met in de originele bezetting Corgan, James Iha, D'Arcy Wretzky en Jimmy Chamberlin, was in de jaren negentig een alternatieve rockgroep die met albums als 'Siamese Dream' en 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness' klassiekers neerzette. Na het uiteenvallen ging Corgan verder met zijn nieuwe band Zwan om vervolgens een solocarrière te beginnen. Iha speelt momenteel in de band A Perfect Circle en Chamberlin heeft zijn eigen groep; Jimmy Chamberlin Complex. Wretzky, die de band in 1999 al verliet, kwam enkel nog in het nieuws na een arrestatie wegens coke-bezit.
